Bread and Roses Theatre (2015)

‘My tears come from my very core, and burn like blood.’

For years, violence has wracked this land and the need for revenge runs deep. Yet the new generation craves a new life, and whilst a Mother grieves her murdered husband and son, a Bridegroom longs for his approaching marriage. But no one is without a past, and his Bride has secrets which cannot remain buried. In a world where passion is as strong as vengeance, hatred and love collide…

This production reimagined Lorca’s celebrated play in a brand new translation, with original music.

The Space (2015)

Oh God, why must I rule? Why must I love?

The year 2050.

A brutal civil war has destroyed both the royal family and democracy.

At last, order has settled; the United Republic is ruled by a Supreme President, Titus.

In a world where any relationship with royalty is political suicide, Titus finds himself in love with Berenice, a foreign queen. Trapped between the two lovers is Antiochus, best friend and ally to both â€“ and secretly in love with Berenice. As political tensions rise, friendship and love are tested to their limits, and Titus, Antiochus and Berenice are all forced to make a choice…

Racine’s masterpiece about a tragic love triangle is a timeless portrayal of ill-fated passion – but it is also a play about the impossible demands made on those in power and the merciless intrusion of speculation into celebrities’ lives. This modern adaptation reimagined Racine’s classic in a world of ever-present media and manipulative spin- doctors.
